dendritic-quartz-sterling-silver-wide-band-ring-1
Dendritic Quartz Sterling Silver Wide Band Ring

Dendritic Quartz Wide Band Ring – Size 8.5

There is a whole strange little world inside this stone. Golden yellow washes through the quartz while dark dendritic inclusions branch across it in shapes that look remarkably like tiny trees, roots and distant vegetation. Near the bottom, the color becomes richer and more complex, with rusty brown mineral staining and flashes of iridescent color appearing as the stone catches the light. It has the feeling of looking through a window onto some miniature landscape that nature built entirely by accident.

Those delicate branching forms may look botanical, but dendrites aren't fossilized plants. They're mineral deposits, commonly manganese or iron oxides, that grow into branching patterns along tiny fractures and spaces within a host stone. Their resemblance to ferns, moss, trees and other organic forms is purely geological, which is exactly what makes them so fascinating to collect. No two formations grow alike, and particularly scenic specimens can look almost impossibly composed.

I framed this one in my double bezel, surrounding all that warm translucent color with a darkened, hand-hammered border. The wide sterling silver band is heavily textured and covered with individually applied silver details, then oxidized and polished back to bring the raised metal forward against the dark recesses. There's a lot happening in the metalwork, but it acts almost like a frame around a tiny piece of natural art.

Metaphysically, dendritic quartz is traditionally associated with growth, abundance and a connection to the natural world, while quartz is associated with clarity and amplification.

✧ Gemstone: Dendritic Quartz with natural mineral inclusions and staining
✧ Ring Size: 8.5; due to the wide band, best suited for approximately a size 8–8.25 finger
✧ Band Width: Approximately 11 mm at the front, tapering to 6.5 mm at the back
✧ Ring Face: Approximately 22 x 15 mm
✧ Setting: Double bezel with hand-hammered border
✧ Metal: Sterling silver with an oxidized patina

One-of-a-kind and made with care in my studio.
