Dark Australian Moonstone Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
This strand has a darker, moodier side of Australian moonstone. The color moves through smoky gray, charcoal and deep brown into softer taupe and dusky rose, with that beautiful moonstone sheen appearing as the beads catch the light. I love how the gradient slowly shifts around the necklace, especially where those warmer muted colors emerge from the nearly black stones. It has a mysterious, earthy beauty that feels very different from the paler moonstones you usually see.
Moonstone has been surrounded by lunar folklore for centuries and is traditionally associated with intuition, change and trusting what you feel even when you can’t quite explain it. There’s always been a little mystery attached to this stone, which feels especially right for these darker moonstones.
