About Janine Krantz

Handmade in the USA

Welcome. I’m Janine Krantz, the artist and metalsmith behind the work you see here. Gemstones have fascinated me for most of my life, and somewhere along the way that fascination became a career built around metal, texture, and unusual stones chosen for their beauty, rarity, and character.

This is a true one-person studio. I design the work, source the stones, make the jewelry, photograph it, pack the orders, and run the business myself.

The Work

My work ranges from understated bezel-set pendants and pieces designed to layer easily to elaborate one-of-a-kind metalwork that lets me push further into texture, movement, construction, and technical metalsmithing.

I’m primarily self-taught, though I’ve also studied with respected master jewelers and continued to learn more advanced techniques over the years. Having full authorship over what I make keeps pushing me to learn more. Every new technique gives me another way to make the things I can see in my head.

The Stones

Stones are at the center of almost everything I make, whether I’m building around a cabochon or knotting gemstone beads by hand on silk. Years of working with gemstones have given me a very good eye for quality and authenticity, and I’m especially drawn to material that is unusual, beautifully cut, rare, or simply too interesting to pass up.

The endless range of color, pattern, inclusions, fossils, and geological history is a big part of what keeps me interested. No matter how many varieties I find, there always seems to be another one worth chasing.

Beyond the Bench

Outside the studio, I love perennial gardening, orchids, cooking, strength training, going to rock and alternative shows, cats, and anything beautifully made. I’m also a mom of three.

Made for the Collector

My work tends to find its way to people who are drawn to the singular, who prefer handmade over mass-produced, and who like knowing there is a real person and a real process behind what they wear. Some collect unusual stones, some fall for the metalwork, and some simply know when a piece feels like theirs.

If you’re here reading this, you probably already understand that feeling.
