Peacock Keshi Pearl Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
The colors in these peacock keshi pearls are incredible. Deep aubergine and smoky purple mingle with flashes of emerald green, electric blue, copper and bronze, all shifting as the light moves across their surfaces. The luster is fantastic, almost metallic in places, and their wonderfully irregular shapes make the colors even more interesting. Every little ridge and curve catches the light differently, revealing flashes of color you might not notice at first glance. At approximately 12mm, these are substantial pearls, and I love the slightly wild, organic look of the finished strand. They're dark, dramatic and absolutely gorgeous.
Keshi pearls are especially prized for their unusual shapes and exceptional luster. Formed without a bead nucleus, they're composed entirely or almost entirely of nacre, the material responsible for a pearl's beautiful iridescence. Their freeform shapes give each pearl its own character, making a strand like this impossible to duplicate exactly. Pearls have long been associated with wisdom, prosperity, love and good fortune.
