Tourmalinated Quartz Pendant with 18k Gold Accents in Sterling Silver
This piece of tourmalinated quartz is just incredibly cool. Fine black needles of tourmaline crisscross through the quartz in every direction, almost like a handful of pick-up sticks were scattered inside the stone. Except, of course, this pattern is completely natural. The quartz has a slightly smoky tone that gives it even more depth, while still being clear enough to really see all of those wild inclusions running through it.
I especially love how the metalwork above the stone echoes that pattern. I built it from overlapping pieces of textured sterling silver that look almost like another scattering of lines, carrying the movement of the tourmaline right up into the top of the pendant. Two 18k gold prongs add just enough warmth and contrast to elevate the whole piece without competing with the stone. It's unusual, a little edgy, and one of those designs where the stone and the metalwork really feel like they belong together.
Tourmalinated quartz combines quartz with naturally occurring inclusions of black tourmaline, which is what creates those distinctive needle-like formations. Metaphysically, it's associated with grounding, protection and clarity, bringing together the properties traditionally attributed to both quartz and black tourmaline.
