Ethiopian Opal Hand-Knotted Necklace in Sterling Silver

There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.

These Ethiopian opals are absolutely beautiful, with a soft translucent ivory body color and flashes of green, gold, orange, blue and violet that shift constantly as the stones move. Some have broad areas of color while others throw off tiny bright sparks, and the graduated size makes the larger opals at the center especially fun to look at. Opal is one of those stones that really needs to be seen in motion to appreciate just how much color is hiding inside so definitely check out the video.

Opal has long been associated with inspiration, intuition, and creativity. Its shifting colors have made it a symbol of transformation and possibility, and it is believed to encourage imagination and self-expression.
