Ethiopian Opal Hand Knotted Necklace in Sterling Silver

There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape that molds effortlessly against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure—flexible, grounding, and endlessly satisfying. I love layering these strands; they bring a lush, polished finish to any outfit, whether stacked with other necklaces or worn alone as a statement of quiet luxury. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones, a detail that makes the piece as refined as it feels.

This strand of Ethiopian opal is nothing short of mesmerizing. The stones flash with shifting fire, greens, oranges, violets, and blues, like sparks caught inside translucent water. They glow with an inner light that feels alive, a constant play of color and movement that keeps the eye lingering. High-grade and rare, this opal is a bit of a splurge, but the kind of treasure you’ll never regret owning.

Opal has long been seen as a stone of mystery and creativity, believed to ignite inspiration while deepening intuition. Its flickering light is said to mirror the inner landscape of dreams and emotions, connecting the wearer to hidden depths of the self.

✧ Stone: Graduated faceted Welo (Ethiopian) opal, 8.3mm to 4.5mm
✧ Length: 19–21 inches
✧ Closure: Lobster claw with 2-inch extension chain
✧ Metal: Sterling silver

One-of-a-kind and made with care in my studio.

Care: Opals, in general, are a soft stone and can be damaged if not given just a little extra attention. Welo opals are actually somewhat porous, so they can absorb lotions, makeup and perfumes. So you want to avoid getting these wet, getting any lotions, perfumes or makeup on them. If they get wet with water they can lose their flashiness until they dry out which can take days to weeks. Damage can be permanent if that happens so get ready first and then put on your opals last. You should not sleep while wearing them and if you need to clean them buff with a soft cloth. When you aren't wearing them return them to the pouch they came in and store safely. Don't leave them sitting in direct sunlight either. So long as you be sure to do these easy and simple things they will stay beautiful for years and years to come.
