Grape Agate Pendant Necklace in Sterling Silver

Grape agate is one of the stranger things quartz can get up to. Instead of the familiar crystal points, it forms these rounded, grape-like clusters, technically called botryoidal formations, with countless tiny crystals covering the surface. This piece has a beautiful lavender-violet color with larger rounded formations rising out of the druzy. The surface somehow manages to look soft and almost velvety while shimmering at the same time, catching and reflecting tiny flashes of light as the necklace moves. It’s a really unusual combination of texture and sparkle that doesn’t quite come across until you see it in motion.

I built the necklace around the long horizontal shape of the stone, setting it beneath a curved bar of textured sterling silver with a mass of silver droplets gathered between the two. The darkened recesses bring out all that texture, while the clean sweep of silver across the top gives the necklace its shape and lets it sit beautifully along the neckline. The softness of the violet against all that darkened, heavily textured silver is what makes this one especially good.

Grape agate is associated with intuition, inner clarity and emotional balance. Its clustered formations have also made it a favorite for meditation and reflection, with the stone often connected to a quieter, more contemplative kind of energy.
