Carnelian Hand-Knotted Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
This strand is all about that gorgeous, glowing orange that makes carnelian so appealing. The faceted rondelles range from juicy tangerine and vivid orange to warmer amber tones, with subtle variations in color and translucency from bead to bead. When the light passes through them, the colors become even richer, and the facets give the entire strand a lively sparkle. The orange silk between the stones is just visible enough to deepen the color and tie everything together.
Carnelian has long been associated with courage, vitality, and creativity. It is believed to encourage confidence, motivation, and inner strength, and has been worn and treasured as a protective stone since ancient times.
