Multicolor Moonstone Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
The colors in this strand immediately made me think of the pebbles that wash up along the beaches here in New Jersey. Creamy sand, warm rust, smoky gray, soft brown and muted rose all mixed together, with a silvery iridescent sheen that shifts over the surface. They have a weathered, earthy palette but still catch the light beautifully, and I love that no two beads look quite the same.
Moonstone has been connected with the moon, intuition and change for centuries. It has that wonderful old association with cycles and new beginnings, and has traditionally been carried as a talisman for travelers and lovers. There’s a little bit of mystery attached to moonstone that has followed it through history, which is probably part of why people have been fascinated by it for so long.
