There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
I love the subtle color changes in this strand. Tiny faceted moonstones move through milky white, cream, soft peach, warm apricot and smoky grey, with the colors blending into one another rather than forming obvious blocks. The smaller scale gives the necklace a delicate shimmer, while those little flashes of moonstone sheen appear here and there as the beads catch the light.
Moonstone has a long history of being connected to the moon, intuition and the mysterious pull of things we can feel more than explain. It has also been associated with love, new beginnings and feminine energy, and was once believed to be made from solidified moonlight. There’s a bit of magic in that idea that still suits the stone beautifully.
