Watermelon Tourmaline Slice Pendant in Sterling Silver & 18k Gold
Some stones are beautiful, and some are just ridiculously cool. This is one of those stones. This is a large, exceptionally clean slice of natural watermelon tourmaline with incredible color zoning, a glowing green center surrounded by a rich border of pink. The transition between the colors is beautifully defined, creating that unmistakable watermelon effect that makes these slices so sought after.
What really sets this one apart is the combination of size, clarity and color. Tourmaline slices often have fractures, inclusions and irregular areas within them, which are all part of their natural character, but finding a slice this large with such a clean window through the stone and such distinct color is something special. Light passes straight through it, illuminating the green from within and bringing out flashes of brighter pink around the edges. It almost feels more like a tiny stained-glass window than a gemstone.
I kept the silverwork open enough to let the tourmaline remain the star. The slice is framed in sterling and fine silver with two small 18k gold prongs at the bottom, just enough warmth to play against the pink and green without competing with them. Hand-fabricated details and darkened recesses give the pendant some of my signature texture, while the open areas around the stone allow light to reach it from both sides.
Watermelon tourmaline is traditionally associated with balance, joy and emotional well-being, bringing together the heart-centered symbolism of pink tourmaline with the grounding, renewing energy associated with green tourmaline.
