There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
Ruby in zoisite is such a wild combination of color. Vivid greens are broken up by black mineral inclusions and flashes of natural ruby in deep wine, berry and magenta. No two beads look quite alike, and I love the way the colors seem almost improbable together while still coming directly from the stone. The faceted cube shape makes this strand even more interesting, giving all of that organic color and pattern a crisp, geometric edge.
Ruby in zoisite, also known as anyolite, is a naturally occurring combination of green zoisite and ruby, first discovered in Tanzania in the 1950s. The dramatic contrast between the two minerals has made it a favorite among collectors and lapidaries. In traditional crystal lore, ruby in zoisite is associated with vitality, creativity, courage and personal growth.
