Super Seven Pendant Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s something beautifully dark about this Super Seven. Smoky quartz, flashes of amethyst and deep red, purple and nearly black rutile all overlap inside the stone, giving it a shadowy, wine-colored depth. The rutile is especially good, fanning outward through the quartz in fine streaks that almost look suspended inside it. Depending on the light, parts of the stone seem clear and glassy while others go dark and mysterious. It has a richness to it that feels a little decadent without being flashy.
The long teardrop shape suits the stone perfectly, and I kept the silverwork relatively restrained around it. A clean bezel follows the outline, with three polished silver droplets at the bottom and a large open bail above. The back is textured with a simple botanical pattern, a detail that's mostly just for you once the necklace is on.
Super Seven, also known as Melody Stone, is an unusual quartz material traditionally described as containing seven minerals: amethyst, cacoxenite, goethite, lepidocrocite, rutile, smoky quartz and clear quartz. It has developed an almost cult following among people who collect unusual included quartz. Metaphysically, Super Seven is associated with intuition, transformation and spiritual awareness, with the different minerals believed to bring their individual properties together within a single stone.
