If you have been paying attention to what I have been doing a lot of lately it's without a doubt hand knotting necklaces. My love of beads has had a strong resurgence and I think beads in general are getting very popular again. Fashion tends to do that but this is a trend I am all in on!
I visited my favorite gemstone bead dealers recently and stocked up on hanks of new gemstone beads and pearls for this latest collection. Since then I have been busy knotting away. In fact my next shop update will be mostly hand knotted gemstone and pearl strands. Layering and mixing and matching them up is so much fun to do! I really got some beautiful materials to work with and I'm so excited to get them up on the website for you!
Each necklace is hand knotted on silk thread. Knotting gives a strand so much sexy, sinuous movement. It is by far the most comfortable way to string up a beaded necklace. The drape they have is literally perfect. It conforms to your body and always lays beautifully, no matter what you are doing. Not to mention they are a tactile delight to play with. If you tend to fidget with things, you need these in your life.
My favorite look right now is pairing a short, choker length necklace with a 18, 20 or 22 inch hand knotted strand. Like this:
I picked up these Evil Eye Mother of Pearl cabs on my last buying trip and I really like setting them like this. Simple with a triangle ball detail for just a little something extra. I have it on a short black spinel necklace and the contrast of black with this small pendant is so good. It works really well with so many hand knotted strand colors but I have been l loving it paired with a super seven strand in a 20 inch length. This has been the go to look for a couple of weeks. I'm making a small run of this style so hopefully anyone that wants one will get a chance at one. The spinel necklaces will be either 15-17 or 16-18 inches long. Worn short is the way to go for this necklace.
Another great way to wear the hand knotted strands is with a petite pendant. I have so many petite pendants in a rainbow of gemstones. You can choose your chain length and plan out how you want to layer one with your hand knotted strand. You can go with a short length chain for your pendant and a longer hand knotted. Or you can pick a shorter hand knotted with a slightly longer pendant. With all the different choices of stones you can create a very personalized look.
Of course there's always the look of a larger bold pendant with a hand knotted strand as well. If you're looking to make a statement that's the way to go. My Gemstone Pendants are all one of a kind, like all the stones I use in them. I can always customize chain lengths on these if you don't see an option to choose. Just send me a message and I will be happy to help you plan your look.
Styling up a layered necklace look is so much fun and with some carefully thought out choices you can mix and match your looks with a few key pieces. I have quite a few neutral colors or multicolor strands that work with so many different color profiles. If you are thinking of pairing up some looks but want to see them together first let me know and I will put them together for you in a photo.
Hand knotted necklaces will last for years before they will need to be re-knotted. In time and with a lot of wear they can stretch or even break but if you care for them with a few simple guidelines you will get years of use out of them before you will want to send them in for re-knotting. If you want to get the most life out of your necklace be sure to never sleep in one. Don't bathe, swim or shower while wearing it. Don't put it on till you have finished putting on your makeup, lotions and perfumes. Don't pull hard or create undue tension on the necklace. The thread is pure silk, silk is very strong and durable but not indestructible. If your necklace gets soiled try to brush or wipe it clean. Washing it is really not recommended unless you just have no choice and if you absolutely have to wash it, use a very mild detergent approved for silk, let it air dry thoroughly and don't put any tension on the strand while it's still wet. Really you don't need to overthink it or worry, just making sure to do those simple things will ensure many happy years with your necklace. I'm always able to re-knot it for you as well. If you ever need to have it redone feel to reach out to me so we can make it happen.
