Summer Earring Challenge
Recently, while getting ready for a party and putting on my jewelry I realized that I have so many fantastic necklaces to choose from but the earring choices were lacking. Maybe I am just bored but I haven't felt like my earring options are exciting to me anymore. Given what I do for a living my jewelry should not bore me. Luckily this is a problem I can fix. Isn't it great when you can actually solve a problem you have? How refreshing!
Coincidentally right when I was in the midst of this train of thought I was contacted by a few clients looking for the same exact thing! They were looking for earrings that worked with their existing necklaces I have made. This further solidified to me that I was n the right track. So I'm turning this into a challenge for myself this summer.
The goal is to create fresh earring designs that stand alone but also work with my existing designs. Ones that will flow with my body of work and look right with a lot of the pendants I already make. I already have some good choices in the shop with my all silver options but I haven't added to that section in awhile. Time to freshen things up a bit!
There are some parameters I decided to work within:
- I want to make a post, a huggie hoop, fish hook and threader style.
- I want to have a few different profiles.
- Small, medium and large sizes.
- Dangly or fixed options.
- Long and short lengths.
- Main focus will not be on stones.
- Any stones used will be versatile in color or neutral.
I'm going to start with some sketches and move on from there. I also have been taking some more advanced jewelry rendering classes so my drawing abilities have leveled up rather dramatically. This way I can play around with my new skills too.
I hope you join along and see what I come up with. I will be posting to my social media some of this process and writing a few more blogs as I go. Some cheering on is always motivating even if you have no intention of buying a thing!
Also if you have encountered this earring issue and have some ideas I would really love to hear them. I really enjoy collaborating with clients and sometimes my best ideas come when I get input from others. So please feel free to leave a comment here or send me a message through the website contact form if you have anything to add or if there was something you would really love to see.
