Faceted Amethyst Wide Band Ring in Sterling Silver

This ring is built around one of my heavily textured sterling silver bands, with an irregular surface of individually applied silver details that creates a different pattern every time I make one. The finished band is oxidized to deepen the recesses before the raised silver is polished back to brightness, giving it the weathered, aged character I love. The band tapers considerably toward the back for a more comfortable fit.

At the center is a beautifully faceted amethyst with rich violet color that moves from deeper purple into brighter flashes of lilac as the light catches its broad facets. I especially like the contrast here between the clean geometry and polish of the gemstone and the rugged, heavily textured silver surrounding it. The stone has enough size and color to hold its own against the substantial band without overwhelming the design.

Amethyst has been treasured for centuries and has a long history of association with clarity, protection and a clear mind. Metaphysically, it is believed to encourage calm, ease mental tension and support intuition and emotional balance. Its deep violet color has also traditionally connected it with wisdom and spiritual awareness.
