Tourmalinated Quartz Wide Band Ring – Size 8.5

I’ve been holding onto this Tourmalinated Quartz for quite a while. The moment I saw it, I knew it was special, and I knew eventually it needed to become a ring. What caught me was the unusual placement of the black tourmaline inclusions. Instead of running randomly throughout the quartz, most of them seem to grow upward from one side of the stone, like a cluster of fine black grasses reaching into all that clear space.

That contrast is what makes this particular stone so good. Tourmalinated Quartz forms when crystals of black tourmaline become enclosed within quartz as the minerals grow together. Those dark lines aren't cracks or markings on the surface. They're actual tourmaline crystals suspended inside the quartz. Every specimen develops differently, but the composition of this one is especially striking, with the dense concentration of needles along one edge gradually giving way to beautifully open quartz.

I set the stone in my double bezel, surrounding the clear quartz with a darkened, hand-hammered silver border. The wide sterling silver band is heavily textured and built up with individually applied silver details. Patina settles into the recesses while the raised areas are polished back to brightness, giving the metalwork enough depth and character to hold its own against such an unusual stone. The band tapers from 16 mm in the front to 9 mm at the back for a more comfortable fit.

Metaphysically, Tourmalinated Quartz combines two stones traditionally associated with complementary qualities. Black tourmaline is associated with grounding and protection, while clear quartz is associated with clarity and amplification.
