Blue-Green Tourmaline Ring in Sterling Silver & 22k Gold
This ring is built around one of my heavily textured sterling silver bands, with an irregular surface of individually applied silver details that creates a different pattern every time I make one. The finished band is oxidized to deepen the recesses before the raised silver is polished back to brightness, giving it the weathered, aged character I love. The band tapers considerably toward the back for a more comfortable fit.
At the center is an exceptionally beautiful rose cut tourmaline in a rich blue-green that shifts between deep teal, ocean blue and green as the light moves through it. The stone has remarkable clarity for a tourmaline of this size, allowing the broad rose-cut facets and depth of color to really show. I set it in a handmade 22k yellow gold bezel, which creates a warm, almost ancient-looking contrast against both the cool blue-green stone and the darkened sterling silver.
Metaphysically, blue and blue-green tourmaline are traditionally associated with calm, emotional clarity, communication and self-expression.
