There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
This is a particularly beautiful strand of iolite, with generous 6.75–7mm faceted rondelles and the violet-blue color that makes this stone so distinctive. Iolite naturally shifts in appearance with the angle and light, moving from clearer violet and periwinkle blues into deeper indigo and smoky blue-gray. The stones have excellent transparency for iolite, and the faceting brings out plenty of sparkle along with the depth of color. Finding iolite this substantial and this nice has become increasingly difficult, making a full strand like this a special find.
Iolite is associated with clarity, intuition, and inner vision. It is traditionally believed to encourage self-discovery and a stronger sense of direction, particularly during times of change or uncertainty.
