Iolite Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape that molds effortlessly against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure—flexible, grounding, and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands; they bring a lush, polished finish to any outfit, whether paired with other necklaces or worn alone as a statement piece. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones, a detail that makes the piece as refined as it feels.
This strand of iolite displays a beautiful range of violet-blue tones, shifting between soft periwinkle, inky indigo, and smoky gray depending on the light. Often referred to as “water sapphire,” iolite is known for this natural color-shifting quality, where the stones can appear deeper and more saturated in some lighting and lighter or more silvery in others. The faceted roundel beads catch the light with a lively sparkle, enhancing that subtle play of color. At 6.75–7mm, the beads have a bold, luxurious presence, making this a standout piece whether worn alone or layered. High-quality iolite in this size has been especially difficult to source lately, which makes this strand all the more special.
Iolite is associated with clarity and inner vision, often linked to intuition and self-discovery. It’s said to help guide decision-making and bring a sense of direction, making it both a thoughtful and visually striking stone to wear.
