Iolite Hand-Knotted Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
These iolite beads have beautiful clarity and sparkle, with that distinctive blue-violet color the stone is known for. Depending on the light and angle, the color shifts from dusky violet and periwinkle to deeper inky blue, a natural effect that makes iolite especially interesting. The faceted rondelles catch plenty of light, giving the strand a rich shimmer without losing the slightly mysterious, moody quality of the stone.
Iolite has long been associated with vision, intuition, and finding one's direction. Its strong pleochroism is said to have helped Viking navigators locate the sun on overcast days, earning it the nickname "Viking's Compass." Metaphysically, it is believed to encourage clarity, self-trust, and a stronger sense of purpose.
