Chrysoprase & Uvarovite Garnet Earrings in Sterling Silver
I love playing with negative space in my work, and these earrings are a perfect example of why. I built the open teardrop shape around clusters of my silver granulation, letting the individual bubbles float within the frame and become part of the structure of the earrings. There is a lot happening here, but because so much of the design is open, they still have this wonderful airy quality when worn.
And then there is the green. The faceted chrysoprase has that incredible luminous, almost glowing color, while the uvarovite garnet at the bottom is intensely green and completely covered in tiny natural crystals that sparkle as they catch the light. I love the contrast between the smooth faceted chrysoprase and the raw crystalline surface of the garnet. The strong triangular shape of the uvarovite also gives the whole design a beautiful finish against the softer curves and scattered silver bubbles above it.
Uvarovite is a rare green member of the garnet family, prized for the brilliant natural drusy crystals that form across its surface. Metaphysically, it is associated with abundance, vitality and individuality, while chrysoprase is traditionally connected with joy, emotional clarity and optimism.
