Cobalto calcite this vivid is remarkable material. Its saturated pink comes naturally from cobalt within the mineral, and the surface of this stone is covered in fine druzy crystals that give it a subtle sparkle as it moves. Good specimens are prized for the strength and richness of their color, and this one is an absolute knockout. Paired with rough black tourmaline, oxidized silver and a few touches of solid 18k gold, it becomes even more striking.
The pendant is double hinged, allowing both sections to move independently rather than sitting as one rigid form. That movement adds another dimension to a piece already full of interesting contrasts. The black tourmaline is left rough and craggy, while two small 18k gold accents cross one corner. There’s a lot to look at here: crystalline against rough, vivid color against black, darkened silver interrupted by a glint of gold. It’s bold, unusual and just a little strange in the best possible way.
Cobalto calcite is traditionally associated with the heart, emotional openness, compassion and creativity. Black tourmaline has centuries of lore surrounding protection and the warding off of unwanted energy, and has long been carried or kept as a kind of protective talisman. Together they make an interesting pairing, one connected with opening yourself to the good while keeping a little armor against everything else.
