Cobalto Calcite Druzy & Rhodolite Garnet Sterling Silver Earrings
These are all about color, texture and negative space. I built the open sterling silver frames around clusters of my silver granulation, scattering the bubbles throughout the interior so they become part of the structure of the earrings. I love how much detail I can put into a design like this while still keeping it open and airy. There is plenty to look at, but the negative space gives everything room to breathe.
The stones are such a good pairing. The cobalto calcite is an almost outrageous shade of vivid fuchsia, with a naturally crystalline druzy surface that sparkles as it moves. Above it, I set faceted rhodolite garnets in that deep raspberry-wine color garnet does so beautifully. One is bright, textural and impossible to miss, while the other is darker and richer, and together they make the whole color palette feel much more interesting than either stone would on its own.
Cobalto calcite is an unusual variety of calcite colored by cobalt and prized for its intense pink to magenta color. Metaphysically, it is associated with compassion, emotional healing and joy. Rhodolite garnet is traditionally connected with strength, confidence and vitality.
