Dendritic quartz is one of those stones where geology manages to make something that looks almost deliberately drawn. This one is especially striking, with black branching dendrites spreading across translucent quartz filled with rich amber, rust, and golden iron staining. Some of the dendrites look remarkably like tiny trees and branches silhouetted against the warm background. None of it is plant material, despite how much it looks like it could be. These intricate patterns are mineral inclusions that formed naturally within the quartz.
I set the stone in a textured double bezel and added two substantial 18k gold prongs along one side. I love the gold against all those warm colors in the quartz. The hinged sterling silver bail is heavily textured with raised silver details, and the hinge allows the pendant to move freely when worn. The back is finished with a deeply textured sterling silver plate, giving the reverse its own pattern and character.
Dendritic quartz is traditionally associated with growth, grounding, and connection to the natural world. It is also associated with resilience and transformation, fitting symbolism for a stone whose incredible patterns were created entirely through natural mineral growth.
