This is an absolutely spectacular piece of Laguna agate. The cut alone is gorgeous, with that long, curving teardrop shape that feels a little exotic and just plain sexy. But the pattern and color are what really make this stone. There are beautifully defined orbs and tight bands running through shades of golden yellow, ochre and orange, with these wonderful hints of soft purple and mauve mixed in. The combination is fantastic, and there are even a few tiny crystalline pockets scattered through the pattern. This is a really high quality piece of Laguna with an incredible cut, color and pattern all in one stone.
I set it in my double bezel setting and added a row of silver granulation along the bottom, following the curve of the stone. One of my favorite details is actually on the back. I textured the silver with a pattern of concentric circles and bands that echoes the natural patterning in the agate, so even the back feels connected to the stone. A large looped bail finishes the pendant and gives it some movement on the chain.
Laguna agate is highly prized for its intricate banding, vivid colors and the incredible variety of patterns that can form within it. Metaphysically, agate is traditionally associated with grounding, stability and balance, and is believed to encourage a calm, steady energy.
