Laguna Agate Necklace in Sterling Silver
I love everything about this piece, starting with the unusual elongated hexagon shape of the Laguna agate. It reminds me of the shape of a double-terminated crystal, and it's such a great cut for this stone. Right in the center is this incredible little formation of caramel, amber and soft lavender banding, surrounded by clear crystalline quartz that catches the light. There's even a bit of natural sparkle near the top. It's just a really unusual piece of Laguna.
I gave the stone a double bezel and built this elaborate silver crown around the top with loops, silver balls and granulation. It's a design that's a little different for me, but somehow still feels completely like my work, and I love the way all of that metalwork plays against the strong geometric shape of the stone.
The back is pretty fantastic too. I patterned the silver to echo the actual Laguna on the front, with concentric circles and flowing lines following the formations in the stone. I love putting this kind of detail into the back of a piece. No one sees it while you're wearing it, but you know it's there, and it makes the whole thing feel that much more special.
Laguna agate is one of the most highly regarded agates, prized for its incredibly detailed banding, rich colors and the completely individual patterns found in each stone. Metaphysically, agate is traditionally associated with grounding, stability and balance.
