Lavender Chalcedony & Reticulated Silver Statement Earrings

These earrings pair luminous lavender chalcedony with some of the most process-heavy silverwork I make. The smooth, translucent stones have a beautiful soft violet glow, while the long open silver drops below are filled with rugged reticulated texture and fine silver granulation. I love the contrast between the two: polished and luminous above, intricate and almost geological below.

The reticulated silver is something I make myself from the metal up. I melt silver into ingots, roll it into sheet, then take it through a long series of heating processes to develop that deeply ridged, irregular surface. There is an element of unpredictability to reticulation that I love. The metal moves and develops its own valleys and folds, so every piece of it is different.

For these earrings, I set pieces of that textured silver inside hand-fabricated open frames and added individually fused granules throughout. Leaving areas of negative space around all that texture keeps the design open and gives you glimpses through the earrings as they move. They’re substantial statement earrings at three inches long, but the open construction helps keep some visual lightness in such a detailed design.

I also made the ear wires specifically as a left and right pair so the earrings naturally hang with the textured faces oriented forward.

Lavender chalcedony is traditionally associated with calm, emotional balance and communication, and is thought to encourage a gentler, more thoughtful kind of self-expression.
