This Mexican fire opal has a beautiful combination of earthy color and brilliant flashes of light. The warm peach and cream-colored matrix is scattered with rusty orange and golden brown markings, surrounding pockets of precious opal that come alive with vivid green, yellow, and orange flashes. The color is especially beautiful against the softer background, with little bursts of electric green and fiery orange appearing throughout the stone as it moves. Its oval shape gives you a wonderful view of the natural patterns, while the reverse features a decorative floral pattern in textured silver.

Mexican opals are particularly fascinating because of the variety of forms they take. While the transparent orange and red varieties are the most familiar, opal found within its natural host rock can reveal an entirely different beauty. The brilliant flashes of color are created by the way light interacts with the microscopic structure of the opal, producing a phenomenon known as play-of-color. In traditional gemstone lore, opal is associated with creativity, passion, inspiration, and imagination.
