Multicolor Spinel Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver

There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.

The color gradient in this strand is gorgeous. It moves through soft lavender and dusky pink into deeper plum, warm rose and almost reddish pink, with little touches of amber and wine along the way. There’s something slightly decadent about the palette, romantic but not sweet, with the darker colors giving all those pinks and purples a moodier edge. The tiny facets catch the light constantly, so the whole strand has this soft flicker of sparkle as it moves.

Spinel has spent centuries hiding in plain sight, with some famous “rubies” in royal collections eventually discovered to be spinel. Maybe that bit of mistaken identity is part of its charm. In gemstone lore, spinel is associated with vitality, inspiration and rekindling your own spark, especially when life has started to feel a little too predictable.
