Petrified Opalized Wood Earrings in Sterling Silver
These earrings feature a beautiful matched pair of petrified opalized wood from West Java, Indonesia, with some of the most interesting coloration in this material. Layers of deep emerald green, softer moss and olive tones move through the stones alongside pale misty bands and a dramatic sweep of glossy black. The pattern feels almost painted, like a tiny abstract composition formed entirely within the stone.
There is also a wonderful depth to the color. The lighter areas catch the light differently as the earrings move, while the darker bands give the pattern its bold contrast. Although each stone has its own individual markings, the colors and bands flow through the pair beautifully.
With stones this distinctive, I kept the setting intentionally simple. Slim sterling silver bezels frame the long, unusual shapes, finished with a cluster of my silver bubbles at the bottom. A complementary pattern has been applied to the silver on the back, echoing the organic movement and layers within the stones.
Petrified wood is traditionally associated with grounding, patience and stability, reflecting its slow transformation from organic material into stone over immense periods of time.
