Petrified Wood & Rose Quartz Dangle Earrings in Sterling Silver
These earrings started with an extraordinary pair of petrified wood stones. Their warm cream, rust, brown and smoky gray patterning is beautiful on its own, but scattered throughout are completely open pockets lined with tiny druzy crystals. You can actually look into the cavities and see the crystalline surfaces inside, giving these ancient, earthy stones an unexpected bit of sparkle and dimension.
I paired them with softly faceted rose quartz drops, and I love the contrast. The translucent blush pink brings a softness to the earthy colors in the petrified wood without making the combination feel overly sweet. The stones are connected so the rose quartz moves independently below, adding another flash of light and movement.
A trio of silver spheres sits between the two stones, and a complementary pattern has been applied to the silver on the back to echo the natural patterning in the petrified wood. It’s one of those details you may be the only one who knows is there when you’re wearing them, but it makes the entire pair feel more finished and considered.
This is another material I haven’t been able to source again. Between the unusual patterning and those naturally open, crystal-lined pockets, these are the kind of stones that are difficult to replace once they’re gone.
Petrified wood is traditionally associated with grounding, patience and stability, while rose quartz is associated with love, compassion and emotional calm.
