Petrified Wood & Garnet Dangle Earrings in Sterling Silver
These earrings feature an extraordinary pair of petrified wood stones filled with intricate natural patterning and open pockets lined with tiny druzy crystals. Creamy tan runs between shades of rust, deep brown and red, while the crystal-lined cavities break through the surface and add unexpected depth and subtle sparkle. Every bit of that pattern was created within the stone, and there is an almost ancient, unearthed quality to them that I love.
Below, I paired them with richly colored faceted garnet drops. The deep wine-red garnet pulls directly from the warmer rust and red tones in the petrified wood, intensifying the color without taking attention away from the pattern. The drops are articulated so they move freely beneath the longer stones, catching the light as the earrings move.
A trio of silver spheres sits between the two stones, and a complementary pattern has been applied to the silver on the back to echo the natural patterning in the petrified wood. It’s one of those details you may be the only one who knows is there when you’re wearing them, but it makes the entire pair feel more finished and considered.
This unusual petrified wood material is something I haven't been able to source again. The combination of its complex patterning and naturally open, crystal-lined pockets makes these stones especially difficult to replace once they're gone.
Petrified wood is traditionally associated with grounding, patience and stability. Garnet is associated with vitality, confidence and passion, a fitting complement to the deep, earthy character of the petrified wood.
