Polychrome Jasper Pendant Necklace in Sterling Silver

This polychrome jasper immediately reminded me of a landscape. The unusually distinct bands run almost perfectly across the stone, with cool green-blue above the warmer earth tones below. Polychrome jasper comes from Madagascar and is typically dominated by rust, ochre, brown and pink, which makes the cooler coloring in this particular stone especially appealing. In this longer cut, there’s even more room for that landscape-like pattern to unfold, almost like a tiny horizon captured inside the stone.

This is the kind of pendant that can become an everyday favorite. The earthy palette works beautifully with neutrals, denim and autumn colors, but that unexpected cool green keeps it from feeling predictable. And while most people will only ever see the front, the back has been patterned as well. It’s a detail you may be the only one who knows is there, but it makes the entire piece feel complete.

Jasper has traditionally been associated with grounding, stability and connection to the earth. That meaning seems particularly suited to a stone that already looks so much like a tiny landscape.
