Sunset Polychrome Jasper Wide Band Ring – Size 8.5

This Polychrome Jasper really does look like a tiny abstract landscape. Soft bands of blue-gray and dusty lavender stretch horizontally across the stone, interrupted along one side by a flash of golden orange and peach. It reminds me of that last bit of warm light catching the edge of the landscape at sunset, while everything around it begins to shift into cooler evening colors.

That's one of my favorite things about working with jasper. The colors and patterns are entirely natural, but every once in a while you find a stone that looks remarkably like something familiar: a landscape, a horizon, a stormy sky. This one feels almost painterly, with layer after layer of fine lines running through the stone like brushstrokes.

I built the ring around the large oval jasper with a substantial sterling silver setting and wide textured band. A dark patina settles into the recesses of the silver to bring out the surface detail, while the band tapers considerably toward the back for a more comfortable fit. Two pairs of silver prongs reach across one side of the setting, adding an asymmetrical detail while leaving that beautiful expanse of color open.

Polychrome Jasper is traditionally associated with grounding, stability and vitality. It is believed to encourage balance and a stronger connection to the earth while supporting creativity and a sense of calm.
