Brecciated Polychrome Jasper Wide Band Ring – Size 9

This Brecciated Polychrome Jasper is such a cool little piece of the earth's history. Layers of soft salmon pink, earthy green, blue-gray, cream and warm brown are broken apart by dark wandering seams, with colors and fragments overlapping one another throughout the stone. It almost looks like you're peering down through layers of an ancient landscape.

What makes brecciated jasper even more interesting is how all of this came to be. The stone began as older material that was fractured and broken apart by geological forces. Over time, mineral-rich material moved through those fractures and cemented the pieces back together. What we're looking at now is the evidence of those separate events preserved in one stone. I love thinking about the enormous amount of time represented in something small enough to hold in your hand, and that every one of these stones preserves a completely different little snapshot of that history.

I built a substantial sterling silver ring around this one, with a wide band covered in layers of texture and individually applied silver details. Dark patina settles into the recesses to bring out all of that surface work, while the band tapers toward the back for a more comfortable fit. Four pairs of silver prongs reach over the setting, adding another graphic detail while leaving as much of that incredible jasper visible as possible.

Jasper has long been associated with grounding, stability and strength. It is believed to encourage balance, resilience and a steady connection to the earth.
