Lepidolite Pendant Necklace in Sterling Silver

Lepidolite gets its lavender color from manganese, but what makes it especially beautiful is all that mica. The stone has a cloudy mix of lavender, plum and silvery white with a fine shimmer that appears as it catches the light. It isn't a glittery sparkle so much as something moving around inside the stone, disappearing and reappearing as you turn it.

The angular shape gives all that soft color a sharper edge. I framed it in a double bezel and clustered silver droplets heavily around the bottom, almost like the silver is spilling out beneath the stone. Darkened recesses bring out the detail in the silver, while the large open bail keeps the top clean and simple. The back is completely textured as well, carrying the metalwork all the way around. It’s an unusual mix of pretty lavender and heavily textured, darkened silver that keeps it well away from feeling sweet.

Lepidolite has traditionally been associated with calm, balance and periods of transition. Because it naturally contains lithium, it has also developed a reputation as a stone for easing stress, quieting an overactive mind and finding a little steadiness when life feels particularly noisy.
