Super Seven Shield Wide Band Ring – Size 9
This Super Seven has a deep, smoldering kind of beauty. Wine red, smoky brown and translucent quartz overlap through the stone, with fine shimmering inclusions suspended inside and little flashes that appear as the light moves across it. The asymmetrical shield shape makes the whole thing feel even more unusual, giving the stone a strong graphic presence without losing all of that depth inside.
Super Seven, sometimes called Melody Stone, is a trade name used for naturally included quartz material that can contain amethyst, smoky quartz, clear quartz and a variety of mineral inclusions. The exact mineral mix can vary from specimen to specimen, which is why these stones can look so dramatically different from one another. This one is especially rich in deep red and smoky tones, with fine internal threads and reflective inclusions that give it a layered, almost fiery appearance.
I kept the setting clean around the stone so the unusual shape and internal color could stay at the center of attention. The wide sterling silver band is heavily textured and covered with individually applied silver details, then oxidized before the raised silver is polished back to brightness. The darkened recesses give the metalwork an aged, weathered depth that works especially well with the darker tones in the stone, while the band tapers toward the back for a more comfortable fit.
Metaphysically, Super Seven is traditionally associated with grounding, intuition, transformation and spiritual growth.
