Super Seven with Red Inclusions Wide Band Ring – Size 7.5
There really does look like there’s a little wildfire burning inside this stone. Fine red inclusions sweep through the translucent quartz in dense, feathery layers, shifting from deep crimson to glowing coppery red as the light moves across it. In places they gather into almost flame-like formations, while other areas open up enough to see down through the quartz and into all of those threads beneath the surface. It has incredible depth, and the rectangular shape makes the whole thing feel almost like a tiny window into something caught in motion.
Super Seven, sometimes sold under the trade name Melody Stone, is a naturally included variety of quartz associated with material containing several different iron-bearing minerals. The exact mineral composition can vary from specimen to specimen, which is part of what creates the dramatically different colors and patterns found in these stones. This particular specimen is dominated by vivid red inclusions that create its fiery, almost metallic appearance.
The softly squared shape has a strong, substantial presence, so I kept the setting clean around the stone and let all of that movement inside it do the work. It is bezel set in sterling silver on one of my wide textured bands, covered with individually applied silver details over a heavily textured surface. Patina darkens the recesses before the raised silver is polished back to brightness, creating the depth and contrast that has become such an important part of my metalwork. The band tapers considerably toward the back for a more comfortable fit.
Metaphysically, Super Seven is traditionally associated with intuition, spiritual growth and clarity. Included quartz is also associated with amplification, while red iron-bearing inclusions are often associated with grounding, vitality and strength.
