Hubei Turquoise Wide Band Statement Ring – Size 10.25

This Hubei Turquoise has such a striking balance of color and matrix. Bright blue turquoise breaks through a nearly black host rock in irregular patches, with little traces of blue scattered around the larger formations. I especially love how concentrated the turquoise is along one side of the stone. It gives the whole thing the look of a landscape seen from above, with brilliant blue water cutting its way through dark terrain.

Hubei Province in China has been an important source of turquoise for decades, producing stones in an incredible range of blues and greens with distinctive matrix patterns. This piece is all about that contrast. Rather than a solid field of blue, much of the original dark rock remains visible, making those vivid pockets of turquoise stand out even more dramatically.

I built the ring around the strong rectangular shape of the stone with a substantial sterling silver setting and wide textured band. Layers of individually applied silver details move across the darkened surface of the band, while a hammered outer border frames the turquoise. The band tapers toward the back for a more comfortable fit while keeping the weight and presence of a bold statement ring.

Turquoise has been treasured across cultures for thousands of years and has traditionally been associated with protection, wisdom and good fortune. Metaphysically, it is believed to encourage calm, communication and a grounded sense of balance.
