Watermelon Tourmaline Slice Necklace in Sterling Silver
This tourmaline slice is all about the color zoning. A vivid raspberry-pink center is surrounded by a softer band of color thats a sort of mix of pink and green, then a ring of green before deepening almost to black around the outer edge. It looks like a tiny cross-section of some strange little world, with all of those colors packed into a stone barely 20mm across.
Tourmaline slices are cut across the natural crystal, revealing the internal color growth that developed as the crystal formed. That makes each one completely individual, and this one has especially dramatic contrast between that bright pink center and its dark outer edge.
I kept the silver framing simple around the stone, adding a hammered border and small silver details at the chain connections. The back has a wonderfully graphic texture with a large radiating starburst design, giving the reverse side its own little surprise.
Watermelon tourmaline is traditionally associated with balance, emotional healing, and the heart, combining the qualities attributed to both pink and green tourmaline.
