Amethyst Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
This is a gorgeous strand of amethyst with an incredibly rich, saturated grape-purple color. The purple is deep and intense, with beautiful violet highlights that emerge as the light catches the facets. There's none of the washed-out lavender color often seen in lighter amethyst. Instead, these gemstones have a lush, almost velvety depth, with flashes of brilliant purple that give the entire necklace a wonderful richness. It's a particularly beautiful example of the bold color that makes fine amethyst so desirable.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, owing its color to traces of iron within its crystal structure and natural irradiation over geological time. Once considered as valuable as ruby and sapphire, amethyst was prized by royalty and featured prominently in European crown jewels. Its name comes from the ancient Greek amethystos, meaning "not intoxicated," reflecting the belief that the stone could protect its wearer from drunkenness. In traditional gemstone lore, amethyst is associated with clarity, wisdom, tranquility, and protection.
