Pink Sapphire Graduated Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
What I love about these pink sapphires is the incredible range of color within a single strand. There are delicate blush pinks, brighter raspberry tones, rich berry reds, and deeper wine-colored stones, all mingling together in a gorgeous progression of color. Rather than a perfectly uniform pink, you get all these beautiful variations, with lighter and darker stones playing against one another. The faceted rondelles have a soft sparkle that brings out the different shades, and the beads are graduated in size for a lovely, balanced drape. It's a particularly pretty combination of colors, with enough depth and richness to make pink feel a little more interesting.
Sapphire belongs to the corundum family, the same mineral family as ruby, and while blue is its most famous color, sapphires occur in an extraordinary range of hues. Pink sapphires owe their color primarily to trace amounts of chromium within the crystal. Traditionally associated with wisdom, loyalty, and sincerity, pink sapphire is also connected in crystal lore with love, compassion, and emotional strength.
