Multicolored Aquamarine Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
There's so much more to aquamarine than the familiar pale, watery blue, and this strand is a beautiful example of just how interesting its color can get. Alongside those delicate icy blues are deeper, richer shades of teal and green, with a few stones showing subtle mossy inclusions that I particularly love. It's that unexpected depth of color that makes this strand so gorgeous. The stones themselves are excellent quality, with remarkable clarity and beautifully faceted surfaces that let you appreciate all those shifting shades. I love finding aquamarine like this, where the colors have so much more character than you might expect from the gemstone.
Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, alongside emerald and morganite. Its name comes from the Latin aqua marina, meaning seawater, a reference to the blue-green colors that have made it treasured for centuries. Historically associated with sailors and the sea, aquamarine is traditionally considered a stone of courage, tranquility and clear communication.
