Labradorite Graduated Faceted Rondelle Hand-Knotted Strand Necklace in Sterling Silver
There’s an undeniably sensuous allure to a hand-knotted strand of gemstones. Each bead moves with a liquid grace, the silk thread giving the necklace a supple drape against the skin. In the hand, they’re a joy to roll between your fingers, smooth and rhythmic with just the right weight. It’s a tactile pleasure, flexible and deeply satisfying. I adore layering these strands, playing with different stones, colors, and lengths, but they’re just as beautiful worn alone. Each one is knotted on silk thread chosen to complement the stones.
Labradorite is one of my favorite gemstones to work with, especially when the flash is this good. These are beautiful quality stones, with a smoky gray body color and vivid flashes of electric blue that appear as the beads move and catch the light. The faceted rondelles graduate from 6mm to 9mm, giving the necklace a little more substance toward the center while keeping the overall look beautifully balanced. I've knotted them on black silk, which looks particularly good against the gray stones and their brilliant blue flashes.
Labradorite's remarkable optical effect is known as labradorescence, caused by light interacting with microscopic layers within the mineral. It's what gives the stone those incredible flashes of color that seem to appear from nowhere. In traditional crystal lore, labradorite is associated with intuition, transformation and protection, often considered a stone of discovery and new possibilities.
