This Ethiopian black opal has a gorgeous, elongated teardrop shape and a remarkable display of color. Fiery reds and hot pinks dominate the stone, with flashes of bright green, orange, and gold appearing throughout. The colors overlap and mingle in an almost painterly pattern, creating incredible depth against the opal's darker background. Its rose-cut facets add another layer of interest, catching the light as the colors shift beneath them. I especially love the intensity of the reds in this one, which seem to glow from within the stone.
