This Ethiopian black opal has a beautiful mix of fiery reds, glowing oranges, and brilliant flashes of green that seem to move around inside the stone. The smooth, polished cabochon has a slightly irregular teardrop shape, with a dark, smoky body color that gives the brighter colors wonderful contrast. There's a particularly vivid flash of green near the tip, while the rest of the stone reveals shifting patches of red, orange, and gold as the light changes. I love the depth of color in this one, especially the way the fire seems to emerge from beneath the surface rather than simply sitting on top. The reverse is finished with a decorative texture in the silver.
